From Photo to Custom Shape
How a clear photograph, sketch or reference can become a reviewed production outline for a custom laser-cut piece.
A photograph is the beginning, not the cut file.
A useful reference shows the subject clearly. The production outline then needs to simplify perspective, close open edges and remove detail that would make the physical piece fragile or impossible to cut.
- Use a straight, unobstructed view whenever possible
- State what must be preserved and what may be simplified
- Provide the finished dimensions and intended use
- Confirm that you own or may use the supplied design
What changes before production
The final result is confirmed around the outline, physical material and intended use rather than copied blindly from the photograph.
Identify the silhouette
Separate the subject from the background and decide which view should define the outer edge.
Simplify fine detail
Convert suitable detail into engraving or remove areas that would be too small or fragile.
Set physical dimensions
Choose the finished longest side and confirm any non-proportional width requirement.
Confirm the production version
Review the relevant outline, material and personalized details before non-standard production.
Send the clearest reference you have.
Include the quantity, finished dimensions, intended use and material preference. If several views exist, label the preferred one.
